How to construct a thesis statement on if the american dream is dead?

I’m doing a research paper for my English 101 class. It is due on thursday and I couldn’t feel more lost in my paper. I was inspire todo “Is the American Dream Dead?” after watching Jon Stewarts segment on “meet the depressed” where a man saying he cant afford his student loans from law school, cant date or marry, and asked president Obama “is the american dream dead for me?”
I’m having an extremely difficult time constructing a firm thesis statement, probably because Im not sure how to state my side.
I was thinking on going with the idea that immigrants to America take the dream as a humble one while native American citizens take it much more as a materialistic one.
At the same time Im not sure how strong of an argument I can make of that.
What I am asking of YahooAnswer viewers is to help me out with some guidelines, personal views, and maybe some rough thesis statements I can work with. Really any help would be useful.

Well, we cant do it for you but we can tell you how to do it. What you need to do is construct and statement/argument around the information you have or around what you think your paper is going to be about. Its basically an introduction that’s in the form of a strong statement/argument.

Remember though, if your paper is multiple pages, say its like 8 pages or whatever, you will most likely want to make that thesis statement 1 full paragraph (3-5 sentences). So basically, the entire first page will become your intro, but in that intro is your thesis and that should be the first paragraph.

edit: Your thesis technically does not have to be in the first paragraph or even on the first page, but if it is it will be much easier to flow throughout the rest of your paper. Your teacher will have a better idea of what you are arguing too.

Community college and financial aid?

Okay, I’m a full-time student at a community college. I was doing alright in classes until a few weeks ago, and everything seems to have fell apart. Horrible test scores, missed quizzes and homework, and I’ve been missing classes as well. Lost motivation. I am fully covered by financial aid. I realize that if I drop out, I will have to pay them back for this semester. But, how does affect my financial aid in the future? Can I try again at a different school?

Dropping out is better than getting an F or an FX, so I’m trying to decide if I should take my chances or not. I screwed up. I just would like to know what my options are for the future.

I also probably cannot afford to go to college without massive student loans or whatever. And if it matters, I still don’t completely know what I want to major in. Sociology, English, Photography and art classes are of interest to me.

Please, share your experiences and whatnot. Thanks.

IF you do anything that will affect your student status (full-time vs. part-time), regardless if you Fail or Drop Out or Withdraw from classes, it WILL affect your financial aid next semester as it will be drastically cut.
