If you miss a payment, the clock restarts. The average grad getting a job at the average salary for bachelor grads won’t ever qualify for loan forgiveness. The loan amounts are capped at $57,000 for undergrad loans. The ones who qualify are the ones going into low-paying public service jobs. It’s much cheaper to forgive the loans than to pay a competitive wage for 20 years.
